Engineering insights of the DT-20: powertrain and mechanics

The core of the machine is the D-20 single-cylinder diesel engine with air cooling. This design choice eliminates common maintenance issues such as radiator leaks, coolant pump failures, or freezing in winter. With 20 horsepower at 1600 rpm, the engine produces significant torque at low speeds, which is essential for maintaining consistent performance when pulling implements through heavy soil.

The transmission is built for versatility. A four-speed gearbox combined with a reduction gear provides eight forward and two reverse speeds. This allows for precise speed control required for row-crop cultivation where accuracy prevents damage to root systems. The track width can be adjusted for both front and rear axles, allowing the tractor to switch from heavy-duty field work to narrow-row vegetable farming.

Chassis and linkage performance

The semi-frame construction with a rigidly mounted rear axle ensures structural integrity during high-load traction tasks. The hitch mechanism features adjustable geometry, allowing operators to fine-tune the depth of soil engagement with precision. The power take-off (PTO) unit operates via both the engine and the travel system, providing flexibility for using stationary tools like irrigation pumps or wood splitters.
