Description
Lisichansky walnut — a high-yielding, early-bearing variety of Ukrainian selection, which starts producing fruit as early as the 2nd-3rd year after planting, and yields a stable harvest by the 4th-5th year. The tree is medium-sized, reaching a height of about 4–6 meters, with a spreading and compact crown, facilitating harvesting. The variety is highly winter-hardy, tolerating temperatures down to -30°C, and also exhibits high drought resistance and wind tolerance, making it suitable for cultivation throughout Ukraine.
The fruits of the Lisichansky variety are large, weighing 10–15 grams, with a thin shell of about 1.2 mm thickness, making them easy to crack. The kernel is light-colored, sweet, and aromatic, with a high yield — from 47% to 52.3% of the fruit's mass. The nuts have excellent taste qualities and are resistant to diseases including marsupial disease, as well as pests, reducing the need for intensive care.
For planting, select well-lit areas with well-drained soil. The planting hole should be at least 60x60x60 cm, and the planting scheme varies from 6x6 to 10x10 meters depending on conditions and cultivation goals. The variety is self-pollinating, but for increased yield, it is recommended to plant several other walnut varieties nearby. The harvest ripens in early to mid-September, and one mature tree can yield up to 100–150 kg of nuts.
