Mashenka

Weigela «Mashenka» is a compact decorative shrub up to one meter in height and 1 to 1.5 meters in width, characterized by a dense spherical crown and slow growth (10–15 cm per year). The leaves have a brownish-red hue, turning almost brown in bright sunlight. The flowers are dark-pink bell-shaped with a light inner color and a yellow spot; they appear on the previous year's shoots and continue to bloom from June to July, sometimes until September.

The shrub prefers well-lit places and protection from wind. It grows in rich, fertile, drained soils but is also resistant to moderate frosts due to the variety's high frost hardiness. Care for «Mashenka» includes regular watering during dry periods, three feedings per season (before budding, during bud formation, and after flowering), and rejuvenation pruning every 2–3 years. If necessary, the plant can be rooted using a rooting agent and mulched with pine bark.

«Mashenka» is widely used in landscape design as a single planting, a living hedge, or part of a grouping with viburnum, barberry, spiraea, cotoneaster, quince, and coniferous trees. Due to its resistance to diseases and pests, as well as its beautiful appearance, this shrub has become a popular choice for both gardens and home plots.
