Engineering Approach to Sunflower Harvesting

The 740N model by Zaffrani is a specialized tool engineered for a single purpose: efficient sunflower head harvesting with minimal losses, regardless of yield conditions. The primary design highlight lies in the lifter architecture and the cutting mechanism, which prevent the «combing out» of seeds from the head before they enter the header.

Key Components and Functionality

• Non-encased Cutting System: The 740N design relies on the principle of minimal stem disturbance. The absence of bulky dividers allows for tight entry into rows of any width, which is critical when working in fields with non-uniform plant development.
• Lifter Geometry: The elongated shape of the trays is designed to keep the stalk in a vertical position during combine tilting or uneven terrain traversal until the head is cut. This eliminates the risk of seed shattering caused by sudden vibration.
• Auger Kinematics: The header auger is equipped with a gap adjustment system, allowing for the feed to be tuned according to the density of the sunflower stand. This prevents crop plugging during high-load intervals.

Unlike universal grain headers, the Zaffrani 740N minimizes the intake of weed impurities and stalk mass into the combine's feeder house. Technically, this is achieved through precise adjustment of the knife bar's attack angle, which operates exclusively within the head zone. In practice, this provides two advantages: reduced load on the threshing drum and the ability to operate at higher ground speeds without increasing header losses.

For agricultural operations, this translates into higher bunker grain purity and the ability to begin harvesting earlier, while head moisture remains relatively high but the stalks have already dried down.
