Known commonly as a type of lance nematode, it is characterized by a robust, heavy stylet used to penetrate and feed on the roots of various host plants, making it a significant challenge in modern agriculture.

The primary damage caused by this pathogen includes root system destruction, stunted growth, and decreased vigor in host plants. It is particularly known for affecting row crops like maize, as well as a variety of perennial plants. By feeding on the internal tissues, it disrupts the plant's ability to uptake water and nutrients effectively.

The biological cycle of this nematode involves several life stages occurring both in the soil and within the root tissue. As a semi-endoparasite, it can move through the rhizosphere to find optimal feeding sites.
