Acrocassis roseomarginata is a species of beetle belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae. It is commonly referred to as a tortoise beetle due to its distinctive, flattened, shield-like body shape, which allows the insect to retract its head and legs underneath the pronotum and elytra for protection.

The host range of this pest primarily consists of plants in the family Convolvulaceae. Economically, this species can be particularly problematic for sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) plantations and various Convolvulus species, which serve as alternative hosts and reservoirs for population buildup in agricultural landscapes.

The life cycle involves complete metamorphosis, including egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Larvae are known for their behavioral adaptation of carrying a fecal shield on their backs, which acts as a deterrent against predators and provides a layer of physical protection from environmental stressors like direct UV radiation.

Feeding damage is characterized by irregular holes and skeletonization of the leaves. Both adults and larvae graze on the leaf mesophyll, which severely impairs the plant's photosynthetic capacity. Under high infestation levels, extensive defoliation occurs, leading to reduced vigor and significant yield loss in sensitive crops.
