The Indian Moon Moth (Actias selene) is a large moth belonging to the family Saturniidae within the order Lepidoptera. While widely appreciated for its beauty, the larval stage is a foliage-feeding insect that can cause significant damage to the leaves of diverse woody plants, necessitating careful observation in horticultural environments.

The host range of Actias selene is broad, encompassing various fruit and nut trees. Primary targets include species from the Rosaceae family such as apple, pear, and plum trees, as well as walnut and alder. In agricultural settings, the caterpillars' preference for deciduous foliage can lead to localized damage, particularly in nursery stocks or intensive orchard plantings.
