Description

Systematic position: The banded thrips (Aeolothrips intermedius) is a member of the order Thysanoptera, family Aeolothripidae. Unlike many purely herbivorous thrips, this species exhibits predatory behavior, feeding on other small arthropods and mites in addition to plant sap, which classifies it as a generalist species within various ecosystems.

Host plants: This pest has a wide range of host plants. It commonly affects leguminous crops, cereals, fruit trees, and various vegetable species. Due to its mobility, it easily spreads from wild weed habitats into cultivated fields, especially during the spring season.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle progresses through egg, larval, prepupal, pupal, and adult stages. Overwintering typically occurs as pupae in the soil or protected organic debris.
