Aeroglyphus robustus is a microscopic arachnid belonging to the order Acariformes and the family Glycyphagidae. As a serious stored-product pest, it primarily inhabits grain storage facilities, granaries, and warehouses, thriving in environments with high humidity and favorable thermal conditions.

This mite species feeds on a wide range of stored agricultural products, including cereal grains, oilseeds, legumes, flour, and dried fruits. It tends to settle deep within grain bulks, where it exploits micro-climatic niches created by temperature gradients and moisture accumulation to establish large, dense colonies.

The biology of this mite is characterized by a rapid life cycle under optimal conditions, comprising egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult stages. The deutonymph stage, often referred to as the hypopus, is a highly resistant, non-feeding phase that enables the population to survive adverse environmental conditions and easily disperse via mechanical transport or pests.

The damage caused by Aeroglyphus robustus is significant; it consumes the germ of the seed, causing a drastic reduction in germination rate and nutritional value. Furthermore, the mass presence of these mites leads to the heating of the grain bulk, which facilitates the growth of molds and pathogenic fungi, rendering the grain unsuitable for processing and consumption.
