Aerotypia (Latin: Aerotypia) is a genus of insect pests belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Pyralidae. These pests are known for their ability to infest various agricultural crops, potentially leading to significant economic losses if not monitored and managed properly during critical growth stages.
The host range of Aerotypia typically includes cereal crops, such as wheat and maize. The larvae are specialized in feeding on the internal tissues of the stem or the reproductive parts of the plant, which interrupts nutrient flow and weakens the plant structure significantly, making it susceptible to environmental stress.
The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult moth.
