Systematic position: The Halys pit viper (lat. Agkistrodon halys) belongs to the order Squamata, family Viperidae. It is important to clarify that from an agronomical perspective, this species is not classified as a plant pest. It is an apex predator within its microhabitat, feeding mainly on small mammals, which makes it a neutral or potentially beneficial species regarding rodent control, albeit a dangerous one for human activity.
