Description
The Japanese flea beetle (Altica nipponica) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae. It is recognized as a specialized pest occurring primarily in East Asian regions, where it impacts both wild and cultivated plants, causing notable damage to specific botanical hosts within its range.
This beetle primarily targets plants in the Rosaceae family, specifically those within the Rubus genus, such as raspberries and blackberries. Both adults and larvae act as herbivores, feeding on leaves and occasionally tender shoots, which can severely compromise the plant's physiological health during the peak growing season.
