Description

The flax flea beetle (Altica oleracea) is a destructive pest belonging to the Chrysomelidae family, order Coleoptera. This insect is primarily recognized for the severe damage it causes to flax crops during the early seedling stages, often leading to significant economic losses for farmers.

This beetle targets flax-producing regions, feeding on both fiber and oilseed flax. While flax is the preferred host, the beetle can also be found on a variety of wild plants within the agricultural landscape, acting as a secondary source of infestation for neighboring fields during favorable spring conditions.

The life cycle involves complete metamorphosis. Adult beetles overwinter in soil debris or protected areas, emerging as temperatures rise in the spring.
