Like other members of the Alticini tribe, it is characterized by enlarged hind femora, which provide the insect with the ability to jump when disturbed, earning the common name "flea beetle."
Altica pagana targets a range of host plants, often focusing on specific botanical families during their active growth phase. Their preference for young, succulent tissue makes them a significant threat to seedlings during the most sensitive stage of their early development in the field.
