Description

The oak flea beetle (Altica quercetorum) is a member of the Coleoptera order and the Chrysomelidae family. It is a specialized pest known to target oak trees, frequently causing significant damage to both nursery seedlings and established forest stands throughout its range.

The biology of the species involves a single generation per year. Adult beetles overwinter in leaf litter or under the bark of trees, emerging in early spring as buds begin to burst. They are characterized by a metallic color, which is a typical trait of many leaf beetles in this genus.

The damage caused by these insects is quite distinct. Adult beetles create small holes in the foliage, giving leaves a perforated appearance, while larvae feed by skeletonizing the leaf tissue, leaving only the veins intact.
