The rose flea beetle (Altica rosae) is a member of the leaf beetle family (Chrysomelidae) within the order Coleoptera. This small insect is a known pest of various species of roses and wild rose plants, causing concern for gardeners and nursery growers due to its feeding habits on plant foliage.
The beetle primarily targets rose plants, where both adults and larvae cause damage. By feeding on the leaf tissue, they directly impact the plant's photosynthetic capacity, which is critical for healthy growth and the development of blooms throughout the spring and summer months.
