The genus Amara belongs to the family Carabidae within the order Coleoptera. While most ground beetles are beneficial predators, some species of the genus Amara exhibit phytophagous behavior, feeding on cereal seeds and shoots when their usual prey is scarce, which classifies them as occasional agricultural pests.

Crops and nature of damage
The damage caused by these beetles is particularly noted in small grain crops, such as wheat, barley, and rye. Adults feed on ripening kernels during the milk and dough stages, significantly reducing grain weight and quality. The pest potential of Amara species is highest during years with climate conditions that favor mass reproduction. Significant losses may occur on the perimeter of fields adjacent to non-cultivated areas or windbreaks. Damaged ears often display irregular feeding patterns, which can lead to harvesting difficulties and losses in yield quality, necessitating constant field observation by agronomists.
