Ambrostoma is a genus of beetles belonging to the family Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles) within the order Coleoptera. In agricultural practice, the most notable species is Ambrostoma quadriimpressum, which is recognized as a specialized pest affecting various plants in the Polygonaceae family, particularly sorrel and rhubarb.

The primary crops susceptible to this pest include perennial vegetables such as sorrel and rhubarb. Both adult beetles and their larvae focus their feeding activity on these specific crops, causing noticeable damage to both home gardens and commercial vegetable operations.

The biology of Ambrostoma involves overwintering as adults in the soil or under plant debris, emerging in early spring. Reproduction begins with the female laying eggs on the undersides of the leaves of host plants. The larvae undergo several developmental stages, feeding voraciously on the foliage throughout the spring and summer months.

The damage pattern is characterized by leaf skeletonization. The insects consume the leaf tissue, leaving only the veins intact, which significantly reduces the aesthetic and commercial value of the crop and impacts overall yield. During severe infestations, the entire foliage may be decimated, which weakens the plant's root system and reduces its vigor for future growth.

Control measures combine both agrotechnical and chemical strategies. Key management practices include:
