Being part of the order Lepidoptera, this organism is recognized in agricultural and forestry contexts as a potential defoliator that can cause significant damage to host plants in tropical and subtropical ecosystems.

The host range of Ammalo ramsdeni primarily includes woody plants and shrubs. In agricultural settings, it can impact nursery stocks and ornamental garden plants. By consuming the leaves, the larvae deplete the plant's resources, causing stunted growth and, in cases of severe infestation, widespread defoliation that weakens the entire specimen.

The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult (imago). The larvae are typically social in their early stages, feeding in groups, which makes their damage patterns localized but intensive. As they mature, they disperse, continuing their feeding cycle until they reach the pupation stage, where they create a protected cocoon.

The damage caused by these insects is primarily characterized by the destruction of the leaf lamina. The larvae consume the leaf tissue, often leaving only the main veins. This damage reduces the plant's ability to photosynthesize, leads to premature leaf drop, and makes the plant susceptible to environmental stresses and secondary diseases.
