Andricus coronus is a species of gall wasp belonging to the family Cynipidae within the order Hymenoptera. Like many other members of its genus, this insect is known for inducing complex morphological changes in host plants, specifically oak trees, to create a safe haven for its developing larvae.

The primary host for this pest is the genus Quercus, particularly the pedunculate oak. The insect targets specific tissues of the host plant, such as buds and young leaves, where the nutrient supply is concentrated. These sites are strategically chosen to ensure the optimal development of the next generation.

The life cycle involves a precise interaction between the insect and the plant's hormonal system. When the female oviposits, she injects substances that manipulate the plant's cellular growth, resulting in the formation of a gall. Heavy infestations can lead to shoot deformation, premature leaf abscission, and reduced annual growth. In severe cases, the presence of these galls can make the host tree more susceptible to secondary pathogens and climate-induced stress.
