The genus Anotylus is part of the diverse family Staphylinidae, commonly known as rove beetles. While these insects are primarily recognized for their distinctive short elytra, certain species within this genus interact with agricultural systems in ways that classify them as minor pests or opportunistic feeders in cultivated soils.
These beetles primarily target vegetable crops, seedlings, and root systems in nutrient-rich soils. They are often found in areas with high levels of decomposing organic matter. Under conditions of high population density or lack of alternative food sources, they may transition to feeding on live plant tissues, particularly the delicate roots of young crops.
