Description
Systematic position: The six-striped flea beetle (Argopistes sexvittatus) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae. This beetle is known as a specialist phytophagous insect, primarily targeting plants within the Oleaceae family, such as ash trees, where it can cause significant aesthetic and physiological damage to landscape plantings.
Crops and damage characteristics: The pest primarily affects the foliage of trees and shrubs. Adult beetles feed by chewing small, circular holes in the leaves, which hinders the plant's ability to photosynthesize effectively. The larvae, however, behave as leaf miners, creating extensive tunnels (mines) within the leaf tissue, which eventually leads to the browning and premature abscission of leaves.
