Systematic position: The Iva moth (Aristotelia ivae) belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Gelechiidae (twirler moths). This small moth is classified as a specialized phytophagous insect that exerts specific feeding pressure on its host plants throughout its larval stage.

Host plants: This pest primarily affects plants within the Asteraceae family, most notably the genus Iva. In various agricultural landscapes or natural habitats, it specifically targets these host plants, often reaching population densities that necessitate active management measures.

Biology and life cycle: The insect undergoes complete metamorphosis, consisting of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. The larval stage is the most destructive phase, during which the caterpillars feed voraciously on plant tissues.
