Like other members of the subfamily Cassidinae, it is characterized by a flattened, shield-like body shape that hides the head and legs, providing an evolutionary advantage against predators while feeding on the surface of host plants.

This beetle primarily targets plants within the Convolvulaceae family. It is a well-known pest in regions where sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is cultivated on a commercial scale. In addition to agricultural crops, it often colonizes various wild species of morning glory, which can serve as alternative hosts throughout the growing season.

The life cycle follows a typical holometabolous pattern. Eggs are laid in clusters on the undersides of leaves, often protected by an ootheca. Larvae are specialized leaf feeders, possessing a robust set of mouthparts designed for consuming plant tissues. After completing their larval instars, they pupate on the leaves. The entire development process is highly dependent on humidity and temperature, typical of tropical and subtropical climates.

The damage caused by Aspidomorpha sanctaecrucis is primarily foliar. Both adults and larvae consume the leaf blade, creating irregular holes and irregular margins. Severe infestations lead to extensive defoliation, which reduces the plant's photosynthetic capacity.
