Description

The genus Athrips belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Gelechiidae. These insects are known as specialized pests that can cause significant damage to agricultural crops, particularly those belonging to the Solanaceae family, including potatoes and various wild flora.

The host range of Athrips species includes various vegetable and ornamental plants. The larvae are primarily responsible for the damage, as they feed on the leaves and terminal shoots, often creating protected zones using silk threads to prevent exposure to predators and insecticides.

The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult moth. Depending on climatic conditions, the pest can complete multiple generations within a single growing season.
