The genus Austromicromus is a member of the Hemerobiidae family, commonly known as brown lacewings, belonging to the order Neuroptera. Contrary to being classified as a pest, this insect is a highly efficient beneficial predator. It plays a critical role in natural biological control by feeding on aphids, mites, and various other small soft-bodied insects that damage agricultural crops.

Systematically, Austromicromus is positioned within the Hemerobiidae family, known for the predatory behavior of both larvae and adults. Unlike phytophagous pests, these insects are essential components of a healthy ecosystem.
