These insects primarily target fruit-bearing trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants. They tend to congregate on young shoots and the undersides of leaves, where the soft tissue provides an accessible nutrient source. The biological lifecycle of Boriomyia consists of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. The transformation is complete, and the duration of each stage is highly dependent on ambient temperature and humidity levels. Overwintering typically occurs in the pupal stage, hidden within bark crevices or organic debris under the host plant.

The damage caused by Boriomyia is characterized by localized tissue destruction, leading to curled leaves and stunted shoot development. Excessive feeding can stress young plants, making them more susceptible to drought and pathogen infestation.
