The Coconut moth (Latin: Batrachedra comosae) is a destructive pest belonging to the family Batrachedridae, order Lepidoptera. This insect species is primarily recognized in regions where coconut palms are grown commercially, as its feeding habits can lead to substantial economic losses in fruit production.

The primary host for this pest is the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). The insect specifically targets the plant's reproductive organs, including young inflorescences and developing fruit, making it highly detrimental to the overall yield of coconut plantations.

The life cycle of Batrachedra comosae occurs largely within the plant tissues. The adult female oviposits on developing inflorescences or immature nuts. Upon hatching, the larvae bore into the internal tissues, feeding on the developing fruit. This damage frequently results in the premature abscission or malformation of the nuts.

The symptoms of infestation are characterized by the sudden drop of young fruits and clear signs of larval activity, such as frass and silk webbing found on the inflorescence.
