The Capuchin beetle, scientifically known as Bostrichus capucinus, belongs to the family Bostrichidae within the order Coleoptera. This wood-boring insect is characterized by a distinctive pronotum that arches over the head, giving it a appearance resembling a capuchin monk's hood, which explains its common name.

This pest targets a variety of deciduous tree species. In agricultural settings, it frequently infests fruit trees such as apple, pear, plum, and cherry trees.
