Description

The Jersey tiger moth (Euplagia quadripunctaria, formerly Callimorpha quadripunctaria) belongs to the family Erebidae within the order Lepidoptera. While often noted for its aesthetic appeal, in agricultural settings, its larval stage can act as a generalist herbivore affecting various types of vegetation.

This species is a polyphagous pest, meaning it feeds on a diverse array of host plants. The larvae (caterpillars) are known to consume foliage of numerous shrubs, fruit trees, and herbaceous garden crops. When their population density increases, they can significantly impact ornamental gardens and small-scale vegetable plots.

The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis including egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Females lay eggs on the underside of leaves.
