Description
The golden ground beetle (Calosoma sycophanta) is a prominent member of the Carabidae family within the order Coleoptera. Contrary to classification as a pest, this insect is a highly beneficial predator. It plays a critical role in forest ecosystems by acting as a natural regulator of various lepidopteran pest populations, particularly those that feed on foliage.
The biology of Calosoma sycophanta is adapted for a predatory lifestyle. Both the adult beetles and their larvae are highly active hunters.
