The lentil seed beetle (Bruchidae family, Coleoptera order) is a significant pest primarily targeting lentil crops. While its scientific nomenclature is often confused in literature, in agronomic terms, it represents a critical biotic threat that affects both the yield quantity and the nutritional quality of harvested legumes.
The biological cycle of the beetle is highly synchronized with the phenology of the host plant. Adult beetles typically emerge from hibernating sites to feed on pollen and floral parts.
