It is a highly significant pest, recognized primarily for its economic impact on fruit production, where it acts as a primary and secondary pest causing degradation of mature fruit crops.

Affected Crops. This beetle is a polyphagous pest with a strong preference for ripe and overripe fleshy fruits. Key hosts include stone fruits such as peaches, nectarines, apricots, and plums, as well as pome fruits like apples. Additionally, it can attack citrus and various other horticultural products, especially when the fruit skin has been compromised by environmental factors or mechanical injuries.

Biology and Life Cycle. The life cycle involves several distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The insect thrives in warm, humid conditions which accelerate its reproductive cycles.
