The spruce web-spinning sawfly (Cephalcia erythrogastra) is a significant forestry pest belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Pamphiliidae. This species is primarily known for attacking spruce trees, where its larvae feed on needles, creating characteristic web nests that provide shelter and protection during their development.

In terms of biology, the adult sawfly is easily identified by the reddish coloration of its abdomen. Females typically lay eggs on the spruce needles in the spring. After hatching, the larvae construct elaborate silk webs by spinning threads between the needles, within which they live and feed in relative seclusion from external predators.
