Ceramidia is a genus of moths within the Erebidae family, recognized as significant agricultural pests in tropical regions, particularly in Latin America. Their primary hosts are banana plants (Musa spp.), and due to their feeding habits, they can significantly reduce the vitality and yield of commercial banana plantations.

Taxonomically, the genus belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Erebidae, and subfamily Arctiinae. These insects have specialized to feed exclusively on the foliage of banana plants, allowing them to exploit this specific ecological niche, which often results in severe localized infestations if left unmanaged.

The life cycle of Ceramidia involves complete metamorphosis, consisting of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. The larvae are the primary stage of concern for agronomists, as they are voracious eaters. Their development rate and the number of generations per year are highly dependent on ambient temperatures and humidity levels typical of tropical zones.

The damage caused by Ceramidia is characterized by the skeletalization of banana leaves.
