The cereal leaf miner (Cerodontha denticornis) belongs to the order Diptera, family Agromyzidae. This insect is a significant agricultural pest characterized by its larvae, which live and feed exclusively within the leaf tissues of various grass species, effectively protecting themselves from many external environmental factors.

This species primarily targets cereals such as wheat, barley, oats, and rye, as well as several wild grass species. It is particularly damaging during the early stages of crop growth, where the destruction of leaf tissue can severely hamper plant vigor and reduce the overall photosynthetic capacity of the canopy during critical development stages.

The life cycle consists of egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Females insert eggs into the leaf epidermis, and emerging larvae mine the leaf mesophyll, creating characteristic tunnels.
