The tamarisk moth (Chiasmia aestimaria) is a moth species belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Geometridae. This pest primarily feeds on various species of the genus Tamarix. It is particularly prevalent in arid and semi-arid regions where tamarisk is grown for soil stabilization or ornamental landscaping.
The biological cycle of this pest is synchronized with the phenology of its host plant. Typically, the moth completes multiple generations per year, which allows populations to escalate rapidly if conditions are favorable. The insect overwinters in the pupal stage, usually buried in the soil beneath the host plant canopy, emerging as adults in the spring.
