This insect is recognized as a significant agricultural and forestry pest, particularly within its native range in South America. The larvae of this species are wood-borers, which makes them particularly destructive and challenging to manage once they have penetrated the host plant.

The host range of Chilecomadia moorei includes various woody plants, both ornamental and productive. Fruit-bearing trees, such as walnut, are frequently targeted. Because the larvae tunnel deep into the woody tissues of the trunk and branches, the host plants are often significantly weakened, which can lead to reduced fruit yield or, in severe cases, the eventual death of the tree.
