Description
Systematic position. The green pug moth (Chloroclystis laticostata) belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Geometridae. As a specialized pest, it is primarily recognized for its larval stage, which impacts various deciduous trees and shrub species in agricultural and garden environments.
Host plants. This species predominantly attacks members of the Rosaceae family. Its main hosts include apple (Malus) and pear (Pyrus) trees, as well as several species of currants and gooseberries. The larvae target the developing green tissues of these plants during the early spring growth period.
Biology and life cycle. The pest undergoes complete metamorphosis. It overwinters as a pupa, typically located in the soil or protected crevices near host plants. Upon the arrival of spring, adults emerge and oviposit near the buds. Larval development is rapid, synchronized with the opening of buds and the emergence of fresh foliage.

In severe infestations, the larvae may skeletonize leaves or consume them entirely, creating webbed structures that weaken the overall vitality of the host tree.
