Description

Chlumetia is a genus of moths within the family Erebidae. Classified under the order Lepidoptera, these insects are recognized for their role as pests in various agricultural settings, specifically targeting fruit-bearing trees and shrubs where their larvae feed on vital plant tissues.

The host plants often include high-value fruit crops, such as mangoes. Chlumetia transversa is one of the most documented species, known to feed on shoots, flower buds, and fruits, causing significant physiological stress to the host plant and impacting its overall vitality.

The life cycle of Chlumetia follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The larval stage is the most destructive phase, characterized by boring into fruit or tunneling into shoots.
