Chrysochraon is a genus of grasshoppers belonging to the family Acrididae (order Orthoptera). These insects are commonly found in grassland habitats but are recognized as potential pests in agricultural settings, particularly when their population densities reach outbreak levels due to favorable climatic conditions.

The primary hosts for this pest include various cereal crops and graminaceous forage grasses. By consuming plant tissues, these insects directly reduce the photosynthetic surface area of crops, which leads to stunted growth, reduced biomass, and lower overall yields in affected agricultural fields.

The biology of Chrysochraon involves an incomplete metamorphosis consisting of the egg, nymph, and adult stages. Overwintering occurs primarily in the egg stage, with females depositing clutches in the soil or within plant stems. The development of nymphs into mature adults is highly dependent on ambient temperature and moisture levels, typically peaking in mid-summer.

Damage caused by these insects is characterized by jagged, uneven leaf feeding patterns. In severe cases, high populations can defoliate entire fields. This damage is particularly critical during the early growth stages of cereals, as the loss of young tissue can cause irreversible yield reduction and weaken the plant's resistance to environmental stress.
