Despite its misleading name, it is native to the Mediterranean region and has become a widespread nuisance for growers of aromatic shrubs across various temperate climates.

The host plants of this beetle are primarily members of the Lamiaceae family. They are known for causing severe damage to rosemary, lavender, thyme, and sage. These plants are often susceptible to infestation due to their presence in both ornamental landscapes and commercial herb gardens, where the beetle finds a consistent food source.
