The copper leaf beetle, scientifically classified as Chrysolina cuprina, belongs to the family Chrysomelidae within the order Coleoptera. This small, metallic-colored beetle is recognized by its brilliant copper or bronze sheen, which serves as a protective camouflage against various predators in its natural habitat.

This pest is primarily associated with plants in the Lamiaceae family. It is frequently observed causing damage to aromatic and medicinal herbs such as sage, thyme, and various mint species. In agricultural settings, it can become a localized threat, particularly in home gardens and nursery crops where host plants are densely populated.

The biology and lifecycle of Chrysolina cuprina are closely synchronized with the growth cycle of its host plants. Adults typically hibernate in the soil or under debris throughout the winter.
