The large mint leaf beetle (Chrysolina grossa) is a beetle belonging to the Chrysomelidae family within the order Coleoptera. It is recognized as a primary agricultural pest that specifically targets aromatic plants, with a strong preference for members of the Lamiaceae family, particularly Mentha species.

This pest is of particular concern for commercial mint plantations. Both adult beetles and their larvae feed on the foliage of the plants, which reduces the total biomass required for essential oil extraction. The infestation can lead to significant economic losses for producers due to both yield reduction and damaged product quality.

The life cycle of the species is characterized by distinct developmental stages. Adult beetles overwinter in the soil or under leaf litter. Once temperatures rise in the spring, they emerge to mate and lay eggs on the host plants. The larvae emerge shortly after and undergo several instars while consuming the leaves before pupating in the soil.
