Cis jacquemarti is a small beetle belonging to the family Ciidae (order Coleoptera). These beetles are specialized inhabitants of woody fungi, primarily bracket fungi (polypores) that grow on tree trunks. In forestry and arboriculture, they are recognized as pests that disrupt the fungal mycoflora, which plays a critical role in the natural decomposition of wood.

The primary food source for this species includes various types of wood-decaying fungi, particularly polypores. By damaging the fruiting bodies of these fungi, the beetles interfere with their sporulation processes. Furthermore, their presence is often an indicator that the host trees or timber are already compromised by fungal infections or are in a weakened state.

The biology of Cis jacquemarti is intricately linked to the life cycle of its host fungus. Adults and larvae live cryptically within the fungal fruiting body. The life cycle consists of egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Depending on the ambient temperature and humidity levels, the beetle can complete one or two generations per season, allowing for rapid colonization of available substrates.

Damage is characterized by numerous tunnels bored by larvae within the fungal tissue. Over time, these activities cause the fruiting body to crumble, significantly reducing its structural and biological function. A high population density of these beetles in a forest area often serves as a bioindicator of poor phytosanitary conditions and advanced fungal decay within the stand.

Control measures primarily involve sound forest management practices, such as sanitation felling and the removal of infected trees bearing fungal fruiting bodies. Monitoring the health of the stand is essential to prevent large-scale outbreaks of these wood-boring and fungus-feeding insects. Chemical controls are rarely used due to ecological concerns; therefore, emphasis is placed on maintaining forest hygiene and biodiversity.
