Coraliomela is a genus of beetles belonging to the family Chrysomelidae within the order Coleoptera. These insects are specialized pests primarily affecting plants of the Arecaceae family, posing a significant threat to palm plantations in tropical and subtropical regions across the globe.

In their natural habitat, these beetles infest a wide range of palm species, including oil palms, coconut palms, and various ornamental varieties. Both the adult beetles and their larvae feed on the leaf tissues, which significantly reduces the photosynthetic capacity of the plants and leads to a decline in the overall vigor of the trees.

The biology of Coraliomela follows the typical lifecycle of leaf beetles. Females lay eggs on the surface of palm fronds. Upon hatching, the larvae undergo several developmental stages, feeding voraciously on the plant foliage. The speed of the life cycle is highly dependent on ambient temperatures and humidity levels, allowing for multiple generations per year in favorable environments.

The damage caused by these pests is characterized by the presence of deep grooves, patches, and holes in the leaf blades. In cases of severe infestations, the beetles can completely defoliate young plants. This causes significant growth stunting, crown deformation, and in extreme cases, total plant mortality or a drastic reduction in commercial yield.

Effective control measures require an integrated approach to pest management. Key strategies include:
