These insects are commonly known as case-bearing leaf beetles due to the unique behavior of their larvae, which construct protective cases from their own frass to survive and develop throughout their immature stages.

This species acts as a polyphagous pest, primarily targeting leguminous crops and various shrubs. In agricultural landscapes, it is frequently associated with fields of alfalfa, clover, and sainfoin. While they are not usually considered primary pests, localized outbreaks can cause economic stress to forage crops by feeding on the vegetative parts of the plants.
