Systematic position. The Silver tussock moth (Dasychira argentata) belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Erebidae, and subfamily Lymantriinae. These moths are widely recognized in forest entomology for their impact on woody vegetation, particularly in East Asian ecosystems where they are documented as significant defoliators.
Host plants and damage. The larvae of this species are polyphagous, capable of feeding on various deciduous and coniferous tree species. The damage is characterized by extensive defoliation: young caterpillars skeletonize the leaves, while older larvae consume entire leaf blades, leaving only the midribs.
