Demetrias is a genus of ground beetles (family Carabidae) that occasionally shift from predatory behavior to phytophagy, becoming pests in agricultural systems. These beetles are generally nocturnal, making them difficult to detect during standard daytime scouting. Their ability to survive in varied environments allows them to persist in field margins and migrate into crops.

Taxonomically classified under the order Coleoptera, the genus includes species like Demetrias imperialis. These insects favor habitats with high humidity and dense ground cover. Their biology is adapted to take advantage of temporary moisture sources, which often brings them into contact with commercial agricultural crops during critical growth stages.

The primary hosts for these pests include small grains such as winter wheat and barley. While they are often considered minor pests, they can become significant when local environmental stressors force them to feed on crop tissues.
