Systematic position: The lesser spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos minor) is a member of the order Piciformes and the family Picidae. As the smallest woodpecker species in its range, it often inhabits orchards and woodland areas, sometimes interacting negatively with horticultural practices.

Affected crops and damage: The species primarily targets fruit trees, including apple, pear, and plum varieties. The bird pecks characteristic rings of small holes into the bark.
